Commercial Pilot License
The North Otago Aero Club has been training pilots out of Oamaru Airport since 1956.
Many of our past students have continued flying with the club or have progressed in the industry to work as commercial pilots.
We are offering a full time course to gain your Commercial Pilot License where you will study part time and work part time in a job. We will assist you in finding work structured to allow study.
This course will involve flight training and ground theory courses to take you all the way to becoming a commercial pilot.
This course will take approximately two years or can be tailored to suit each individual.

Our club members have a wide range of international and domestic aviation experience from agricultural flying to airline flying.
What's Involved?
The first step is to complete your Private Pilots License.
This license consists of a minimum of 50 hours flying and completing 6 theory exams. You will also need to do a English Language Proficiency Assessment and be able to pass a DL9 or Class 2 Medical. The minimum age for a PPL is 17 years old.
After completing the Private Pilot License you can then begin your Commercial Pilot License. This allows you to be employed as a pilot.
The CPL consists of 200 hours total flying time and an additional 6 exams which are building on the exams you completed for the PPL. You will need to hold a Class 1 Medical and the minimum age for a CPL is 18 years old.
